Meet Dan

Meet Dan

I’m Dan Fiskum. I’ve lived in Rockford since 2007, and it’s where I rebuilt my life and built my family.

I had just gone through a divorce and was looking for a place to start over. Rockford felt right. I liked the small-town atmosphere, and as a motorcycle rider I quickly learned the roads out here are some of the best in the state.

Not long after moving here, I met my wife, Greta. We married in 2009 and have stayed here ever since. Like many people in Wright County, I spend a fair amount of time commuting. I practice law in Minnetonka and appear regularly in courts across Wright, Hennepin, Scott, and Carver counties — but Rockford has always been home.

Living here for nearly two decades, I’ve come to appreciate how much people in this district care about their land, their work, and the communities they’ve built.

Throughout my career, my work has focused on solving problems, asking hard questions, and helping people navigate complicated systems while making sure the rules are applied fairly. That managerial mindset — careful, disciplined, and grounded in the law — is what I will bring to St. Paul.

Greta and I enjoy running local in 5Ks and spending time in the Boundary Waters most summers. We share our home with our dog Dylan, who keeps life interesting.

Before becoming a lawyer, I worked professionally as a musician, performing everywhere from Carnegie Hall to Las Vegas. Those experiences taught me discipline, preparation, and respect for the work — lessons that apply just as much in public service as they do on stage. I’m also a life member of the musician’s union – the American Federation of Musicians – which is affiliated with the AFL-CIO.

I’ve been a motorcycle enthusiast for many years. Riding reminds you to stay alert, respect the rules of the road, and take responsibility for your decisions. Public service should work the same way.

I’m a Democrat running for the nomination for the Minnesota Senate in the August 11 primary.  I will bring equal standards, constitutional guardrails, and real accountability to government. Responsibility should apply to everyone — including those in power.

I will apply the same standards to my own party that I apply to anyone else. I believe in strong, lawful authority and in constitutional guardrails that protect every citizen.

District 29 deserves leadership that is steady, transparent, and consistent — leadership that follows the same rules it expects others to follow.

That’s the standard I hold myself to as a lawyer, husband, and a neighbor here in Rockford.

I would be grateful for your support.
